ARCHERWILL — The Archerwill Sports Day Committee has scheduled a full slate of events for Aug. 16 and 17 at the Archerwill Sports Grounds.

Community volunteer Lynda Braaten told SaskToday the annual event typically draws between 400 and 500 people.

Located 1.5 miles west of Archerwill, Saturday’s activities will begin with breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by slo-pitch games at 10 a.m., gymkhana at 11 a.m., and the popular chariot races at 1 p.m. Sunday’s chariot races will start at 11:30 a.m.

Chuckwagon races are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A cabaret will be held Saturday night at the Corral, featuring DJ Bob Kapellar starting at 9 p.m.

Braaten said the event depends on volunteers who run the gate, kitchen, children’s activities and bar.

“Without our volunteers, we could not have these shows,” she said, adding that new helpers are always welcome.

Children’s activities will run both days, including treasure hunts, sand pits, face painting and bouncy houses.

Archerwill Sports Day has been a summer tradition in the community for decades, offering a mix of rodeo, racing and family activities that attract visitors from across the region.
