Annual Senior Pink Lights game brings fans from near and far

Unity Warriors defeat Rosetown, first time in six years.

UNITY — Three Friday night lights games were scheduled throughout the west central region on Sept. 26, with the Plenty Wildcats hosting the Macklin Sabres, the Biggar Blazers hosting the Kerrobert Rebels and the Unity Warriors hosting the Rosetown Royals.

The Wildcats had the hometown advantage over the Sabres and cinched the win at 50-30. Meanwhile, in Biggar, the Rebels held a one-point spread with only minutes left in the game. With only seconds left in the final quarter, Biggar was able to sink a long pass into the end zone for a touchdown, with the final going to the Blazers, 52-47.

Prior to kickoff in Unity, the Warriors invited the parents of the eight players who will be graduating at the end of the academic year. One by one, each player was called and presented a bouquet of flowers to their family.

Donned in their pink jerseys, the Warriors got the lead over the Royals in the first quarter. Yet the visitors showed strength and perseverance as they started putting points on the board. Yet, it was the Warriors who won against Rosetown, 25-15, ending a six-year streak.

The Warriors will host Eatonia on Oct. 2 and the Sabres host Biggar Oct. 3. Other games scheduled throughout the week have not yet been shared.
