Melville is preparing to welcome the province’s top curlers this January as the city hosts the 2026 SaskTel Tankard and Bunge Prairie Pinnacle in a combined format at the CN Community Centre.
Host Committee Chair Larry Peterson says excitement is already building.
“We’re all excited. It’s great for the community and for curling in the area,” Peterson said. “We’ve hosted three of these events before and every one has been successful. It’s a lot of work, but it’s always worth it.”
Peterson noted the event provides a major boost for both the Melville Curling Club and the community, helping fund rink improvements and attract visitors to local businesses.
Sponsorship support has been strong, but there’s still room to get involved.
“We’ve sent out more than a hundred sponsorship packages, but if we missed anyone, we’d be glad to get them one,” Peterson said.
Tickets will be available soon at Pharmasave, Royal Drug Mart, Melville Chevrolet, the City of Melville, the Melville Advance, and the Melville Curling Rink. For the first time, tickets can also be purchased online at CurlSask.ca.
Volunteers will again be vital to the event’s success. About 120 volunteers are needed for roles such as setup, admissions, 50/50 sales, bartending, and venue takedown.
A Volunteer Registration Night will be held Thursday, October 23rd from 7–9 p.m. at the Melville Curling Club in the RE/MAX Centre, where volunteers can sign up, register, and fit jackets.
“Every time we’ve hosted before, we’ve filled all our volunteer spots on the first night,” Peterson said. “We’re hoping for the same again this year.”
