September means sports schedules ramp up and university sports are no exception.

Football: Huskies @ Rams

The U Prairie Challenge -- football edition -- came in the second week of the season, and the first provincial battle took place on the turf at Mosaic Stadium in the Queen City.

The Huskies actually fell behind in this one trailing 22-7 in the second quarter before the dogs rallied and lit up the scoresheet in a hurry going into halftime with a 28-22 lead. But in the end it was the University of Regina Rams prevailing with a 33-28 victory on their turf. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 0-2 while the Rams improve to 2-0.

It was the first time the U of S lost to the U of R since 2017, Saskatchewan had won the last eight games in a row prior to Friday.

Some noteworthy numbers in this one. Anton Amundrud completed 22-of-33 passes for 235 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Running back Ryker Frank carried the football 17 times for 64 yards with one touchdown while Daniel Wiebe made five receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Taz Smith-Windsor recorded 5.5 tackles, one forced fumble and recovered one fumble while Zach Zary produced five tackles, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble. 

The Next game for the Huskies is Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. when Saskatchewan hosts the University of Calgary Dinos at Griffiths Stadium for the annual Homecoming Game. 

Women's soccer: Huskies vs. Griffins and Pandas

The Huskies women's soccer team played their first two games on their Canada West schedule at home last weekend.

In the first game versus the MacEwan Griffins the Huskies earned a 2-2 tie with goals from Cheyenne Lehmann and Jade Houmphanh. The next night they faced the University of Alberta Pandas and won 2-0, Tia Lecox and Alyssa D'Agnone scored for the Huskies in the victory.

The Huskies are back in action this weekend as they play two more at home. Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Winnipeg Wesmen and Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. the University of Manitoba Bisons.

Men's soccer: Huskies @ Lethbridge Pronghorns

The Huskies men's soccer team had one game on the Canada West schedule. They were in Lethbridge, Alberta to face the Pronghorns.

There was just one goal in this game and it came off the foot of Ethan Cabral to give the Huskies a 1-nothing victory. With the win they improve to 2-3 but have won their last two.

Next weekend the Huskies are on the road, Friday they face Fraser Valley in Abbotsford at 9 p.m. and Sunday they are on the island to take on the Victoria Vikes at 2 p.m.

Exhibition women's hockey: Huskies vs. Cougars

The first week of September and yes hockey pre-season games are being played. This one at a neutral site as they try and expose smaller communities to U Sports calibre hockey. The Huskies took on their provincial rivals, the Cougars in Swift Current, and it was the University of Regina winning this game 1-0.

The women's team opens their season on the road in Regina with a match up against the Cougars on Friday, October 4

Exhibition men's hockey: Huskies vs. Dinos

The Huskies men's team was also in action as they too played a neutral site game, this one in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. The Huskies won this one easily by a 6-1 score. The following night the two teams met in Calgary with the Dinos earning a 3-1 victory.

The next game for the Huskies men's hockey team is on Friday when they face the U of R Cougars at Big River First Nation at 5 p.m. Their first game of their Canada West season is on Friday, October 4 when they host the Cougars at Merlis Belsher Place at 7 p.m.
