The University of Regina men’s and women’s curling teams swept this 2025 Canada West Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships over the weekend in Calgary.
The Canda West title is the second for the Regina women in four years, after they won their first conference banner in 2022. Meanwhile, the Cougar men get a bit of redemption after finishing as runners-up a season ago. The Regina team won its first title since the 1969-70 season.
In the men’s championship, the Cougars traded shots with the previously undefeated Calgary Dinos. Calgary got on the scoreboard first with a single in the third end, but Regina immediately responded with a two in the fourth and another in the fifth for a 3-1 edge. Calgary scored one in the sixth, but another deuce in the seventh end for the University of Regina secured the win.
On the women’s side, the Cougars scored in five of the first six ends to again bring home the Balmoral Ladies Canada West Trophy for the second time in four years with a 6-0 win. This ended a strong tournament by a young Thompson Rivers team, who had made their first appearance in the Canada West championship since 2015.
All four teams now advance to the U SPORTS Curling Championships Feb. 24-28 in Lethbridge, Alberta.
