16 teams compete for U20 Saskatchewan provincial curling championship

The Saskatchewan under-20 provincial curling championships are underway at the Regina Highland Curling Club.

Six men’s teams and ten women’s teams have registered for the championship that will run through Sunday afternoon.

In the women’s opening draw on Wednesday night, Spiritwood’s Danica Laventure topped Regina’s Heidi Fradette 12-9, Andra Todd from Swift Current was an 8-3 winner over Kamdyn Bauldic who plays out of the Lloydminster Curling Club, in an all-Regina match-up the Highland’s Chloe Johnston beat Shawna Simpson 8-6, and Estevan’s Olivia Fonstad edged the Battlefords Chloe Semeniuk 9-8.

Martensville’s Dylan Derksen scored a 10-6 win over Moose Jaw’s Dayne Heisler, and Brandon Weiss from Esterhazy outscored Regina Callie’s Andrew Moulding 11-10 in the men's first action.

A pair of draws are on Thursday’s schedule at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
