The Golf Saskatchewan Amateur Championships,wrapped up at the Royal Regina Golf Course on Thursday.
In the Saskatchewan Amateur Women’s Championship, Sela Ogada of Calgary emerged victorious on Thursday afternoon with a 54-hole total of 232 strokes, finishing at 13-over par. Notably, Ogada, aged just 14, became the second consecutive Alberta golfer to claim the provincial title. Regina's Alex Schmidt closely followed in second place, trailing Ogada by three strokes. Ogada's earlier win in the under-15 category at the Junior Women’s Championships in Yorkton underscored her emerging talent. Reigning champion Emily Cornwall of Calgary secured third place with a score of 20-over par.
Meanwhile, in the second Saskatchewan Mid-Amateur Women’s Championship held from Tuesday to Thursday, Carla Odnokon of Saskatoon continued her impressive streak. Representing the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club, Odnokon secured another provincial title with rounds of 82, 83, and 79, fending off challenges from Edmonton’s Darcy Garbutt. Chelsea Kinoshita of Langenburg claimed the third spot in this competitive division.
In the Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, Danny Klughart of Prince Albert clinched his fourth Saskatchewan title after a hard-fought battle at the Royal Regina Golf Club. Competing in the 25-and-over division, Klughart secured victory by a narrow margin of one stroke over Jehremy Ryde. Tyler Zaba of Regina closely followed in third place, ensuring his place alongside Klughart and Ryde on Team Saskatchewan for the upcoming Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship in Ottawa this summer.
Reflecting on his win, Klughart expressed the significance of his achievement during the trophy presentation, marking a milestone in his golfing career.
Additionally, Kye Fisher of Edmonton claimed the overall championship title with an impressive 5-under par round of 66. Royal Regina member Luke Cote secured second place, earning the privilege of leading Team Saskatchewan into the Canadian Amateur Championship at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club and Riverside Country Club in early August. Chase Pochylko took third place, while Klughart’s remarkable second hole-in-one of the week secured him the third spot on Team Saskatchewan.
