The Moose Jaw Little League All Stars won the Saskatchewan provincial championship on Friday and will now represent the Prairies at the Canadian Little League Championship in Victoria.

VICTORIA, B.C. -- The Moose Jaw All Stars are seeing gradual improvement at the Canadian Little League Championship, but finding their first win at the seven-team event has proven elusive.

The All Stars continued to show improvement at the event but would drop an 8-2 decision to Quebec’s Diamond Academy on Sunday afternoon in Victoria, B.C.

As a result the Prairie representatives are now 0-5 at the tournament and will have one more chance to hit the win column on Monday when they take on B.C.

After a scoreless first inning, Quebec opened scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning and would tack on four more in the third for a six-run edge. Moose Jaw got two back in the fourth to make things interesting, but Diamond picked up a pair in the sixth to close out scoring in the contest.

The All Stars scored their first run in the fourth when Vaughn Thibeault hit a lead-off single and came around to score when Landon Vanbocquestal reached on an error after laying down a bunt. Vanbocquestal then went to third on a line-out by Hudson McGonigal, and came around to score when Ollie Waddington grounded out to shortstop.

Beau Beddow started for Moose Jaw and allowed five runs on six hits over 2 ⅓ innings. Lincoln Magnus took over in the third and went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. McGonigal then finished things off, giving up a single run on two hits in the fifth.

All but two of Quebec’s 12 players had a hit, with Charles Kittel-Hudon going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Ishimu Sato went the distance on the mound for Diamond, allowing the two runs on four hits and striking out three.

Moose Jaw closes out their showing at the championship on Monday when they face B.C.’s Little Mountain at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
