‘We’ve got to stop the run’: Regina Rams ready for showdown with undefeated Manitoba Bisons

The University of Regina Rams have the chance to dethrone the unbeaten University of Manitoba Bisons on Saturday.

Head coach Mark McConkey knows what his team did wrong in their blowout loss to Alberta last week and they’ve put it all behind them.

“We were angry, I’ll tell you that,” McConkey said about the 30-6 loss to the Golden Bears.

His team lost control of the game early and surrendered 252 yards rushing while his defence spent roughly 13 minutes longer on the field than Alberta’s.

“We were disappointed in the effort. That’s not who we are but we’re hungry and we’re excited," McConkey said.

With a chance to boldly go somewhere no team in Canada West has gone this season by beating the Bisons, the bench boss is more interested in what a win would do for his team in the standings.

The Rams enter the weekend 2-2 as part of a three-way log-jam in the middle of the conference standings with the same record as UBC and Alberta behind 4-0 Manitoba.

“We’re in a good spot,” McConkey said. “We’ve earned that. We’re a good team. We’ve just got to play like it together.”

Starting quarterback Owen Sieben is getting closer to being game-ready after suffering a concussion on opening day. He’ll make the trip to Winnipeg and be part of team meetings with the possibility of playing again as soon as next week or the game after.

The Rams at Bisons game will be live on the CKRM 2's livestream with the pregame show at 3:45 Saskatchewan time and kickoff at 4:00.
