Like many Saskatchewan football fans who could not attend the 2024 Roughrider training camp in Saskatoon, I eagerly watched and listened to the media coverage and commentary.
The voice of the Roughriders, Dave Thomas of Harvard Media, interviewed dozens of coaches and players throughout the camp's duration.
The camera setup is basic, with a head and shoulder shot of the coach or player being interviewed.
Interestingly enough, the player interviews were more revealing about what you saw versus what you heard.
The tone of voice was different from that of previous Rider camps. More excited, more hopeful, more engaged.
But, as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
There was a slight hint of radiance in the faces. Where you saw significance was in the eyes - Happy eyes, bright eyes, determined eyes.
The Roughriders season-opening game in Edmonton did not look good at the end of the third quarter. Saskatchewan was trailing 18-8, then early in the 4th - 21-8.
History said one thing - game over.
This time, it was different—very different. The Riders scored 21 fourth-quarter points to win the game.
The men in green dominated both sides of the football in the final 15 minutes.
It was the largest 4th quarter Roughrider comeback in 16 years.
Did anybody see this coming?
Indeed yes! It was in the eyes all along.
