Regina Thunder look to bounce back in PFC battle with Winnipeg Rifles

The Regina Thunder will look to bounce back after a Week 4 loss to the Saskatoon Hilltops. The Thunder will welcome the Winnipeg Rifles to Leibel Field at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Thunder have a 3-1 record, while the Rifles are 2-2.

The Regina Thunder will look to bounce back after a Week 4 loss to the Saskatoon Hilltops. The Thunder will welcome the Winnipeg Rifles to Leibel Field at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Thunder have a 3-1 record, while the Rifles are 2-2.  

Sunday is also “Pack the Park” - Regina Minor Football Day!  The Thunder will welcome all RMF players and coaches wearing their team jerseys to watch the game for free.

Thunder head coach Scott MacAulay says they are ready to rebound from last week's setback.

“The Rifles are a well-coached team and always play us tough.  Our guys have a lot of pride, and we can’t wait to hit the field and play our brand of Regina Thunder football.”

In Week 4, the Rifles lost a heartbreaker to the Calgary Colts on a 52-yard game-winning field goal with just 21 seconds on the clock. Quarterback Riley Element threw for 236 yards and had a touchdown pass to Jalen McDonald, who had six catches for 64 yards. Running back Joshua Farber rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

The Rifle defence forced eight turnovers and was led by Kyler Banfield, who had six tackles, two assisted stops, a sack, forced and recovered a fumble, and had a knockdown in the setback.

•          Leads the PFC in rushing with 786 yards on 100 carries. He also has 3 TDs

•          Anchor on O-Line that has amassed 1,722 net yards

#51     Devin Baumann – Linebacker 

•          Has 46.5 defensive points – tops on the Thunder

•          11 defensive tackles, four assisted tackles, three special team tackles, and 2.5 tackles for a loss, a blocked kick, two pass knockdowns and a fumble return for a touchdown 

 

#25     Owen Effa – Linebacker

•          8 defensive tackles, four assists, four special team tackles and 2 TFLs 

 

#52     Kenten Effa – Linebacker

•          16 defensive tackles, seven assists and a pass knockdown for 45 defensive points

 

#3       Cooper Filazek – Defensive Back

•          10 defensive tackles, two tackles for losses and a pass knockdown
