On Friday night at Griffiths Stadium, the seventh-ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies hosted the eighth-ranked UBC Thunderbirds in week two of the Canada West Football season. The Huskies' annual homecoming game attracted 9,551 fans, and most left happy with the home team's 51-14 victory.

Saskatchewan opened the scoring with a pair of Lucas Scott field goals in the first quarter, giving the team a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes.

In the second quarter, the Huskies added to their lead just over a minute into the quarter with a two-play 87-yard drive capped by a 79-yard pass and catch from Saskatchewan quarterback Anton Amundrud to Daniel Wiebe.

The Huskies would extend their lead to 16-0 with a Lucas Scott field goal before UBC would find some offensive success. With just over six minutes before halftime, Thunderbirds' quarterback Drew Viotto would spot Mark Webb in the end zone from 33 yards out to cut into Saskatchewan’s lead, 16-7.

Before time expired in the first half, the Huskies moved the ball to the B.C. 10-yard line, where Lucas Scott came out to kick a 17-yard field goal for a 19-7 lead at halftime.

In the second half, it was all Huskies. Daniel Wiebe would catch his second touchdown pass of the night from Anton Amundrud, and running back Javin Boynton would run the ball in from four yards out. Additionally, the defence would force a UBC safety to extend their lead to 35-7 at three-quarter time.

In the fourth quarter, Anton Amundrud would throw his third touchdown pass to Dawson Leneea to extend the Huskies' lead.

Amundrud would add on a fourth passing touchdown when he found Aulain Penner in the end zone from three yards out.

UBC would round out the scoring when Toluwalope Ayedegbe would cap a five-play drive with a one-yard rush for a major.

Amundrud would finish the game 26-38, passing for 443 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, UBC’s Drew Viotto was 18-30 for 234 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Saskatchewan’s Ryker Frank led the way on the ground, carrying the ball nine times for 98 yards. Daniel Wiebe was Amundrud’s favourite receiver, catching nine passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

The 2-0 Saskatchewan Huskies are off until Saturday, September 13, when they travel to Winnipeg to take on the 0-2 University of Manitoba Bisons.
