Ask a group of curling fans who the greatest Canadian curler is, and you’ll spark endless debate. Canada has produced so many legends that the answer depends on what kind of greatness you value most.

For many, the choice is Brad Gushue. With multiple Brier titles, world medals, and Olympic gold, his longevity and consistency make him hard to top. Others point to Kevin Martin, the “Old Bear,” whose four Briers, Olympic gold, and tactical brilliance helped modernize the game.

On the women’s side, Jennifer Jones is often the pick. An Olympic champion with numerous Scotties victories, she’s remembered for her calm under pressure and iconic clutch shots. Colleen Jones and Kerri Einarson also have strong cases, with their eras of dominance. And no list is complete without Sandra Schmirler, the beloved “Queen of Curling,” who won Olympic gold in 1998 and three world titles before her career was cut short.

So who’s the greatest? It depends on the lens. Dominance? Martin and Schmirler. Longevity? Gushue and Jennifer Jones. Inspiration? Schmirler again.

If pressed, I’d choose Brad Gushue — his career is the complete package of medals, consistency, and leadership. But the beauty of Canadian curling is that the answer might change tomorrow, and maybe that’s the real legacy: greatness shared by many, not just one.
