The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released 25-year-old DB Kosi Onyeka. The graduate from Guelph played seven games for the Riders this season, starting the last three games at free safety.

Onyeka was in his fourth season with the Riders after signing as a free agent in 2022.

Onyeka registered 10 defensive and 10 special teams tackles with the Green and White this season.

The Roughriders added four American players to their expanded practice roster: Running back Marcus Major Jr., linebacker Tuasivi Nomura, quarterback Brayden Schager and linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala.

Major Jr., a six-foot, 220-pound back, was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft and attended training camp with the team. Before turning pro, he spent his senior season (2024) at the University of Minnesota. He rushed 78 times that season for 371 yards and three touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown over 12 games.

Nomura, a six-foot-one 221 221-pound linebacker, spent his summer with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers after signing as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 draft. Before turning pro, Nomura spent two seasons at Fresno State University. In 13 games last year, he registered 110 total tackles (seven for a loss), four pass deflections and one fumble recovery en route to earning First Team All-Mountain West recognition.

Quarterback Schager spent four seasons at the University of Hawaii, throwing for 9,096 yards and 62 touchdowns while starting 37 of 42 games. The six-foot-three, 220-pound pivot was the full-time starter for his last three seasons at Hawaii, including a 2023 campaign in which he passed for 3,542 yards and 26 scores, topping the Mountain West Conference in both categories.

Six-foot-two, 203-pound linebacker Tuputala attended rookie mini-camp with the Seattle Seahawks and signed a free agent contract with the Club this past August. Before his time in Seattle, he played six collegiate seasons (2019–24) at the University of Washington. Over three years as a starter, he recorded 221 total tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, eight sacks and one interception.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are back in action on Friday night when they take on the Redblacks in Ottawa. You can hear the game across the 620 CKRM Cooperators Broadcast Network, starting with the Croft Electric, Nelson Homes Countdown to Kickoff at 2 p.m.
