Yorkton Terrier William Leonard has huge road game

YORKTON -  After a weekend’s work in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League the Yorkton Terriers sport a season record of 6-6-0-1 for 13 points, tied with Melville for third in the Bunge Division.

Weyburn sits at the top of the Bunge with 20 points, with Estevan second with 16.

As for weekend action things did not go well for the Terriers Friday as they hosted Flin Flon at the Westland Insurance Arena with the home side being blitzed 11-0.

The Terriers fell behind just 44 seconds into the action, and were never in the contest as Flin Flon led 4-0 after 20-minutes, 8-0 through 40-minutes and 11-0 at game’s end.

Both Terrier netminder’s shared the pain in the game Alexandro Montoya allowing seven goals on 32-shots, with Callum Creig allowing four goals on nine shots.

Saturday the Terriers headed on the road looking for some redemption in Warman against the Wolverines.

In this one the Terrier offence found itself starting with a powerplay effort 2:31 in by Cash Lanigan.

William Leonard scored at 8:05 and Yorkton carried the 2-0 lead to the middle frame.

Leonard added his second of the night just 32-seconds into the period to make it 3-0.

Riley Rich Holden found the twine for Warman at 9:48 on the powerplay to make it 3-1.

A goal by Mikale Budz at 11:56 made it 4-1 Terriers headed to the third.

Leonard was back to complete his hat trick with a goal at 3:08 of the final stanza.

Ethan Dundas gave the Wolverines some hope scoring at 8:55 to make it 5-2.

Leonard was back at it at 9:56 with a powerplay goal – his fourth marker of the night.

Quinn Tavender added one at 11:11 and Yorkton had a 7-2 win.

Creig was in net for Yorkton facing 25-shots in the win.

Griffin Wright took the loss facing 35-shots in the Wolverine net.
