Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers split weekend set with Mintos

Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers hosted Prince Alberta for two on weekend.

YORKTON - The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers started their home stand of the new Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League season with a weekend pair against Prince Albert.

In action Saturday evening at the Westland Insurance Arena the Mintos and Maulers played through a scoreless first period.

Seth Holtvogt started the ledger for Yorkton with a goal at 13:44.

Eighteen seconds later Cruz Stacey evened things 1-1 for the Mintos.

A late powerplay marker by Austin Root at 19:39 edged the home side ahead 2-1 through 40-minutes of play.

Meric Poncelet added a powerplay goal 3:58 into the third to extend the lead to 3-1, and Brodyn Pladson added an empty netter at 18:06 to give the Maulers a 4-1 win.

Cole Ivey was in net for the Maulers facing 29-shots in the win.

Jaden Blanchette faced 51 in the loss for PA.

The two teams tangled again Sunday afternoon in Yorkton.

Baue Anholt started things with a goal at 9:50 of the first to give the Mintos an early lead.

Exactly three-minutes later – at 12:50 – Broden Wotherspoon tied things.

In the middle stanza a goal by Maxim Cooper edged PA ahead 2-1.

A powerplay effort from Liam Myhre at 12:23 made it a 3-1 lead for the Mintos.

A goal by Cooper Sawatzky at 14:05 extended the visitor’s lead to 4-1. 

A Mauler powerplay effort by Meric Poncelet 1:32 made it 4-2.

Yorkton drew within one 4-3 on a goal at 14:01 by Brodyn Pladson, but the comeback would stall and the game would end in a one-goal Minto win, and a split of the weekend set.

Ben Wagner was in the Yorkton net facing 32-shots in the loss.

Jaden Blanchette was back between the pipes for PA facing 39 in the Minto win.
