UNITY — The crack of a bat hitting a ball, the thud of a hard-thrown ball meeting a glove and cheering crowds could be heard in Unity until almost the end of July. Unity Minor Ball stepped up to the plate and hosted three sets of provincials in 2025: the U15 B Softball Girls’ Northern Provincials, the 15U AA Tier 3 Baseball Provincials and the 13U AA Tier 3 Baseball Provincials.
The three tournaments — beginning July 11-13 and ending July 25-27 — kept minor ball officials, grounds crew, town employees, booth workers and volunteers busy. The 15U AA Tier 3 event, held July 18-20, was especially challenging with persistent showers interrupting some games, which then had to be finished early the next morning to allow time for rescheduled matches before playoffs began.
Once the bases had been packed away and the booth shuttered, Unity Minor Ball president Graeme Gieni told the Press-Herald, “I’d just like to thank all the families, sponsors and volunteers that continue to support our minor ball program every year. Without them, we would not be able to host three weekends in a row like this.
“Also a big shoutout to the town rec department for keeping the diamonds in great shape. Awesome facilities like these make hosting that much easier.”
Gieni added, “The amount of compliments we get from visiting teams about our diamonds and how smoothly the tournaments run is a testament to all involved.”
