SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN — The Saskota Baseball League's Jack Harbourne Cup champions is to be decided July 28 in Estevan.
The Southeast Diamondbacks are slated to face the Carlyle Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. at Lingelbach Field at Mets Stadium. The Diamondbacks were the top team in the regular season and are in the final for the first time in franchise history; the Cardinals are seeking their sixth straight league title.
The league held its annual Harbourne Memorial Tournament on the weekend, with games happening July 25 in four different markets. Then the league's eight playoff teams converged on Carnduff for games July 26 and 27.
An early thunderstorm rumbled through the southeast July 27, delaying the final round-robin games. A tie-breaker was needed in the afternoon, and then the semifinals were contested. There wasn't enough time to play the final.
The Diamondbacks edged the seventh-seeded Redvers A's 3-2 in one semifinal, ensuring that the final would be played in Estevan. The Cardinals nicked the eighth-ranked Oxbow Chiefs 4-3 in the other semifinal.
Other teams entered the Harbourne were the host Carnduff Astros, the Weyburn Sun Devils, the5 Kenosee Cubs and the Estevan Tap House Wolves. The Arcola Threshers and the Moosomin Badgers didn't qualify for the playoffs.
