UNITY — If getting to the next Roughrider game is not possible, football fans do not have to look too far in the west-central region as local high schools take to the field.
The UCHS Warriors make the long trek to Maple Creek on Sept. 5 to face off against the Redmen for the first time. The Redmen had recently transitioned from 9-man to 6-man football and were eager to host the Warriors.
It did not take the visiting team to start adding the points onto the board, with the first touchdown being made within minutes of the first quarter. The Warriors continued to dominate on the field throughout the game. During the second half, Warrior Rylan Fauth was removed from the remainder of the game, but that did not seem to slow the visitors down. Although the Redmen were able to add 15 points to the board, it was the Warriors who got the win with 56 points.
On Sept. 6, the Kerrobert Rebels hosted the Biggar Blazers. Although the home team started strong in the first half of the season-opener, it was the Blazers who made a strong comeback. In the last few moments of the game, Biggar took the win 32-30.
The Warriors are back on the road again, travelling to Eatonia on Sept. 11. The Macklin Sabres will host the Kerrobert Rebels Sept. 12 for their first game of the season.
