LUSELAND – Luseland District School hosted the third annual Rec Volleyball Club Tournament. The club, which plays every Sunday from October through April, hosts the tournament and fundraises for the local food bank.
This year, they raised a total of $1,650 to give back to the community. Over the past three years, the tournament has raised approximately $4,000. There were many sponsors this year contributing to the cause. Sponsors included Prairie Branches Ent. Inc., Knots & Nourishment, Scentsy – Reighna Heintz, Avon – Sandra Bardick, Nutrien – Luseland, Strathcona, CZ Studios/Fabulous U, V.J. Finley Agro Ltd., and Prairie Sky Treasures and Print Studio.
This year’s tournament took place on April 12 and 13, with a total of nine teams participating. When the tournament began, there were only five teams, and it has since grown by two. Teams from Unity, Saskatoon, Elrose, Kerrobert and Rosetown came to play this year. The champions of the tournament were the Gettin’ Diggy Wit It team from Elrose.
Twilla Heintz organized the tournament. Though she usually plays on her own team, The Notorious D.I.G., with her three kids, she ended up refereeing this year instead. She said it’s nice to play a sport she loved as a kid and to share the experience with her children and the rest of her team. She said, “It makes for a fun weekend, it’s a good way to get out and have fun and for a good cause too.”
The third annual tournament made for a great weekend for all who played or watched, bringing teams together for fun while fundraising for the community. The club appreciates all the donors and sponsors for this year.
