Brett Lauther returns to Riders lineup, Sheldrick Redwine starts in Rolan Milligan Jr.’s spot versus Argos

The Saskatchewan Roughriders special teams units will have some familiar faces returning to the starting lineup against the Toronto Argonauts on Friday with Brett Lauther and Mario Alford.

Lauther is returning from a back injury and did not play in the Riders Week 18 win over the Ottawa Redblacks. Fellow national kicker Campbell Fair missed two extra points in the nation’s capital. In 2025, Lauther’s field goal percentage sits at 68.9. As for Alford, the last time he was in the lineup was Week 15 against the Montreal Alouettes. Shawn Bane Jr. took over Alford's duties for Week 17 and 18 but he’s listed as a healthy scratch. Overall, the 34-year-old has suited up in eight games for the Green and White and returned 25 kick off returns for 697 yards with one touchdown plus 31 punt returns for 357 yards.

For the Riders defence, that unit will be without Rolan Milligan Jr. due to a foot and knee injury. He has played 15 games for Saskatchewan in 2025 and accumulated 52 defensive tackles, one special team tackle, four interceptions and one touchdown. Sheldrick Redwine takes his spot at boundary halfback. Last week, the 28-year-old Redwine saw his first CFL action when he suited up against the Redblacks. Nafees Lyon is new to the Riders' defence and will make his debut against the Argonauts. The last team he played for in the CFL was for the Montreal Alouettes last year. Jayden Dalke moves from the safety position from the previous game and will be slotted in as a weak-side linebacker in place of Melique Straker against the Argos. The reason why Straker is not playing is because the Riders listed him with an illness.

When it comes to the Riders' offence, Joe Robustelli has been activated from the practice roster in place of Dohnte Meyers who has an ankle injury. The last time Robustelli played was in Week 14 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This season Robustelli has played 10 games for the Green and White, recording 33 receptions for 469 yards and two touchdowns. Mitchell Picton is back in the lineup at slotback behind Kian Schaffer-Baker. The last game he played was against the Edmonton Elks in Week 17. Tommy Stevens will not be playing, and instead, Jack Coan is listed as the Green and White’s third-string quarterback. Stevens' last game for the Riders was against the Elks in Week 17 and he’s listed with a knee injury. Coan has been the Riders third-string quarterback since Week 18.

The Riders take on the Argonauts on Friday, wearing their obsidian green jerseys for the "Lights Out" game. Teagan Witko, Justin Dunk, and Wes Cates have the pre-game show at 4 p.m. Dave Thomas and Luc Mullinder have the game call at 7 p.m. Listen or watch our thorough coverage on the 620 CKRM Co-operators Rider Broadcast Network.
