Lumsden native Ellis Mieyette has ‘surreal’ feeling playing for hometown Regina Pats

For Lumsden native Ellis Mieyette, nothing is more perfect than playing for his hometown Regina Pats.

"I don't think there's a better situation I could be in right now than playing for the team I watched growing up, living at home with my parents and having all my family and friends around me," Mieyette said on the SportsCage's Pats Chat.

"I think it happened out of luck that I got a camp invite. I think I came in, earned my spot, and I had a chip on my shoulder. There's probably nowhere else in the world I'd rather play right now, knowing the past years of their struggles and trying to get out of it. It's still surreal every day getting to play for them, go to the rink and live at home all at the same time. I'm pretty happy right now."

This season, the five-foot-10 centre is tied for first on the Pats in goals with three and has one assist through four games.

"I came into camp trying to make the team. Then once I signed, I tried to make the most out of preseason and try to get used to the league, knowing that it's different and then take it day-by-day," Mieyette explained. "I don't know if I have a number set, but it's to score when I can, take the points while I can and take it day-by-day."

Previously, Mieyette played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Drumheller Dragons, last year he scored 12 goals and recorded 39 assists in 48 games.

The Pats earned their first win of the 2025-2026 WHL season when they defeated the Swift Current Broncos 4-2 on October 4. Mieyette finished the game as the first star after scored one goal and registering one assist.

"We had a few good games with Edmonton and PA and Swift, and even Medicine Hat. I think it's good to get the monkey off our back," Mieyette said. We needed one, I think we can build off that one."

Regina's next game goes on Saturday when they host the Vancouver Giants at home. Make sure to catch our pre-game show with Dante De Caria at 5:30 p.m. and later he will have the game call at 6 p.m. live on 620 CKRM.
