Regina Thunder claim first place in PFC with win over Saskatoon Hilltops

The Regina Thunder earned a hard-fought road victory for the second week in a row. This week, they came away with a 24-21 win over the Saskatoon Hilltops.

The Regina Thunder earned a hard-fought road victory for the second week in a row. This week, they came away with a 24-21 win over the Saskatoon Hilltops. Heading into the bye week, the Thunder now hold sole possession of first place in the PFC with a 6-1 record.  

The Thunder offence was led by running back Peter Boersch, who rambled for 129 yards on 24 carries. The ground game also got a boost from Jackson Harnett, who had a 72-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. 

Quarterback Adam Moser was 9 of 17 for 117 yards. He also hooked up with Andrew Sweeney for a 17-yard touchdown pass.   

Ben Walz was Mosher’s favourite target, catching three passes for 36 yards.  

The Thunder defence intercepted Hilltop quarterback Brexton Elias 4 times. Defensive back Jake Mayo had two interceptions, including a 34-yard pick-six in the fourth quarter. Jackson Ashman and Marcus Butz each had an interception.

Linebacker Kenten Effa led the Thunder with six defensive tackles, while Kohl Thomson made five defensive stops. 

In addition to his rushing touchdown, Jackson Harnett added 41 punt return yards and 41 kickoff return yards in the win. 

Chase MacAulay and kicker Shawn Green each contributed two special team tackles. 

The Thunder return to game action on Sunday, October 12, when they host the Edmonton Wildcats at Leibel Field.
