Saskatoon Berries 5, Regina Red Sox 3
The Saskatoon Berries celebrated Canada Day with their league-leading 23rd win of the season, edging the Regina Red Sox 5-3 Tuesday afternoon at Currie Field.
Carnduff’s Carter Beck continued his strong season, leading the Berries with two hits, bincluding his fifth home run. Evan Janner also chipped in with a pair of hits, while Diego Quinonez earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits.
Colton Anderson went seven innings for Regina, giving up three earned runs on six hits while striking out six in the loss. The Red Sox fell to 12-13 on the year.
Saskatoon will look to extend their win streak to nine games Wednesday night when they host the Moose Jaw Miller Express. The Red Sox are on the road in Swift Current to face the 57’s.
Swift Current 57’s 13, Moose Jaw Miller Express 2
Triggs Mapes belted two home runs and drove in six runs to lead the Swift Current 57’s to a dominant 13-2 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Wednesday.
Jose Ayala added four hits and four RBIs, while starter Adam Korte picked up the win for Swift Current, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts over five innings.
Austin Gurney went 3-for-5 for Moose Jaw, boosting his batting average to .403 on the season.
The 57’s jumped out to a 7-2 lead after three innings and extended it to 13-2 by the end of the seventh.
Weyburn Beavers 5, Lethbridge Bulls 13 (Game 1)
Weyburn Beavers 10, Lethbridge Bulls 14 (Game 2)
The Lethbridge Bulls completed a Canada Day doubleheader sweep of the visiting Weyburn Beavers on Tuesday.
In Game 1, the Bulls cruised to a 13-5 win, powered by three-hit performances from Bernie Soccaras, Lee Matsuzaki, Jack Kalisky, and Adonis Bernal.
Game 2 saw Weyburn jump out to a 10-7 lead after a six-run third inning, but Lethbridge responded with four in the bottom half and added two more in the ninth to secure a 14-10 victory.
Matsuzaki had a standout day, going 5-for-6 in Game 2 and finishing the doubleheader 8-for-11 with his first home run of the season.
Weyburn’s road trip continues Thursday night in Saskatoon against the Berries at Cairns Field.
