Medicine Hat 9, Regina 14

On an emotional evening at Currie Field, the Regina Red Sox handed the Medicine Hat Mavericks their first loss of the Western Canadian Baseball League season with a 14-9 win on Tuesday night.

Rafael Jackson led the charge with four hits, while Holden Hungerford delivered a strong performance on the mound, giving up just three runs over six innings.

Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held in memory of Jesse Lubiniecki, a Regina native and Red Sox pitcher. Lubiniecki, entering his second season with the team, tragically passed away following a single-vehicle rollover in Rosebud County, Montana late Friday, as he was returning to Saskatchewan from Taft, California.

Fueled by emotion, the Red Sox came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding five more in the fourth to secure their third win of the season.

Carter Roth was a bright spot for the Mavericks, going 5-for-5 at the plate.

Medicine Hat, now 5-1 on the season, will get a chance to bounce back when they face the Red Sox again in Regina on Wednesday at 7:05 PM.

Fort McMurray 3, Saskatoon 5

Cam Marshak, a product of Bruno, Saskatchewan, led the charge with three hits as the Saskatoon Berries picked up their fourth straight win, defeating the Fort McMurray Giants 5-3 Tuesday night at Cairns Field.

The Berries broke things open with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by a clutch double from second-year player Bailyn Sorenson.

Ethan Murdoch and Mason Roell each added a pair of hits to help Saskatoon improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Berries and Giants will square off again Wednesday night in the Bridge City, with first pitch set for 7:00 PM.

Elsewhere in the WCBL on Tuesday, the Energy City Cactus Rats edged out the Sylvan Lake Gulls 8-7, while Lethbridge shut out Okotoks 6-0.
